Learn to Do Flash Groups

This resource is for people who are interested in learning how to do Flash groups, especially with (but not limited to) marginalized or oppressed populations. This page lists the resources (training, consultations, protocols, practice groups, and other resources that may be helpful to you. Many more people expressed interest than anticipated, so I’m producing this page as a centralized resource for this training opportunity. Everything associated with project is free. My goal is to prepare you to conduct Flash groups with populations with severe trauma effectively and “safely.”

These are the steps:

  • First, enter your name and email in this list so that Thomas Zimmerman can contact you and keep you updated about opportunities and resources.
  • Get trained in the Four Blinks Version of Flash (or retake the training as a refresher if needed). Live online trainings are here through March 2025. Pay close attention to time zone for the live trainings. Prerecorded trainings are available as a YouTube playlist, as a podcast on Spotify, on the Four Blinks website, or as a course in Thinkific.
  • Review the Four Blinks Version of Flash treatment guide. This is important. It is only 19 pages and contains almost everything you need to know to understand this version of Flash, regardless of delivery format.
  • Optional, but helpful: Try Flash self-administered.
  • Review the Four Blinks Version of Flash Group Protocol.
  • Participate as a group member (client role) in several of the weekly Flash processing groups. Consider volunteering to conduct one of these groups after you have participated in several. You can do this by emailing Thomas at: flattext@gmail.com You can also conduct a recorded group with friends/colleagues/fellow therapists and send Thomas the recording for feedback.
  • Bring your group Flash questions to the consultation groups that are scheduled twice monthly.
  • After you have done the above things and you need additional free individual consultation, contact me at: flattext@gmail.com to schedule it.
  • If you are offering public groups, let me know when they are so that I can help you get participants (if that is your goal).

I can’t wait to see what you are able to do with Flash groups. Let me know what questions you have! Tom
